Medicare plan options

Medicare isn't one-size-fits-all.

Choosing the right path is essential for your health and financial security. We simplify the process by helping you weigh Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans against Medicare Advantage (Part C), and we add Prescription Drug Coverage (Part D) and Short-Term Medical where they make sense for your household. Our goal is a clear, side-by-side analysis so you can choose with full confidence.

The single most important Medicare decision you'll make: stick with Original Medicare and add a Supplement (Medigap), or move to a Medicare Advantage plan? These are two very different roads, and the right one depends on your priorities — cost predictability, doctor freedom, travel flexibility, and the extras you value.

Medicare Supplement (Medigap)

Supplement plans pair with Original Medicare to fill in the “20% gap” that Original Medicare leaves you responsible for. The trade-off: more freedom, more predictability, and higher monthly cost.

  • Use any provider nationwide that accepts Medicare — no networks, no referrals.
  • Predictable costs with minimal out-of-pocket surprises after your premium.
  • Travel-friendly across all 50 states; some plans include foreign travel emergency coverage.
  • Does not include Prescription Drug, Dental, Vision, or Hearing — those are added separately.
  • Comes with an additional monthly premium on top of your Medicare Part B premium.

Medicare Advantage (Part C)

Medicare Advantage is a private insurance alternative to Original Medicare. These plans “bundle” your Hospital (Part A), Medical (Part B), and usually your Prescription Drug (Part D) coverage into a single plan managed by a private company.

  • Bundled convenience — one card, one plan, often with $0 or low monthly premiums.
  • Often includes extras — dental, vision, hearing, fitness, transportation — not all plans, but many.
  • Network restrictions — you generally must use the plan's network of providers. Out-of-network costs can be significantly higher.
  • Prior authorizations may be required for specialists, procedures, or certain medications.
  • Annual changes — costs, benefits, and networks can shift every January.

There is no “better” choice in the abstract — only the one that fits your doctors, your medications, your travel habits, and your budget. We build a side-by-side custom comparison so you can see the full picture before you commit.

Medicare Part D has undergone a major transformation, making your drug costs more predictable and affordable. However, these changes mean that choosing the right plan is now more critical than ever.

  • The Annual Out-of-Pocket Cap: There is now a permanent limit on what you pay for covered prescriptions each year. Once you reach this cap, your covered drugs cost $0 for the rest of the calendar year.
  • The “Monthly Payment” Option: You can now choose to spread your out-of-pocket costs into capped monthly installments rather than paying a large amount all at once at the pharmacy.
  • Fixed Costs for Essentials: Most Part D plans now feature $35 monthly insulin caps and $0 copays for recommended adult vaccines, such as Shingles.

Is your current plan optimized for these changes? While the “Donut Hole” is gone, every insurance carrier handles these new rules differently. One wrong choice could leave you paying more than necessary before hitting your cap.

Don't leave your spouse uninsured. Medicare is an individual benefit — your spouse cannot join your plan. If your retirement ends a family employer policy, your younger spouse could be left without coverage until they turn 65.

The “Bridge” Solution — Short-Term Medical: Short-term plans provide a fast, flexible safety net to protect your spouse and your retirement savings:

  • Fast: Coverage can start as soon as tomorrow.
  • Affordable: Often a fraction of the cost of COBRA or Marketplace plans.
  • Flexible: Pick the exact number of months needed to reach age 65.
  • Protective: Shields your assets from unexpected medical emergencies.
